Research is our business
As a unique health authority providing specialized care, it is our responsibility and mandate to remain at the forefront of the latest advances in health care. We are dedicated to ensuring our agencies are equipped to provide the best in care now and in the future.
With this in mind, we encourage research in all specialties and challenge each member of our organization to see beyond the limits of today’s health care solutions. As a result, our agencies are home to some of the world’s leading research teams. These innovative thinkers have been responsible for advances in such diverse areas as cancer, mental health, pediatrics, transplant, genomics, bioinformatics and disease control.
In 2003-04, researchers at PHSA, its agencies and research partners brought in more than $75 million in competitive research grants and funding. As well, in April 2004, four PHSA-led projects received multi-year funding of $25.3 million from Genome Canada. Our academic affiliations with the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University and other post-secondary institutions support collaboration with leaders from diverse backgrounds and the on-going peer-review of our work.
